DAY 1: Friday, May 5, 2017
Kootenay Pass, or the Kootenay Skyway, is a scenic mountain pass in the Selkirk Mountains connecting the communities of Salmo and Creston. Local arts and crafts can be found at virtually every community along the way.
First stop, the Creston Valley Wildlife Interpretation Centre, which offers educational displays about this internationally recognized wetland and the wildlife species that live here. Trained Naturalists are available to answer questions, provide trail maps and information. Easy access to many kilometers of flat top dyke trails offers amazing opportunities to view a large diversity of wildlife.
A visit to the unique Boswell Glass House and grounds.
Stopover with the Artisans at Crawford Bay, a small hamlet situated on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake. Watch artisans work at their pottery, jewelry, weaving, glassmaking and more, all within a short walking distance of each other.
Lunch at the Wood’s Pumphouse Grill with many choices; completely homemade burgers to sandwiches, salads, and innovative entrées with vegetarian, seafood and poultry.
Take the Kootenay Lake ferry scenic trip back to Nelson.
DAY 2: Saturday, May 6, 2017
The Doukhobor Discovery Centre is a reconstruction of a typical Doukhobor village, as lived in 1908-1939 showing all of the major buildings, tools, handicrafts and implements used at that time.
Spouses will choose between a trip to the Chances Castlegar Casino or a visit to the Zuckerberg Island Heritage Park where the heritage of human and natural history unique within the Columbia River Valley has been preserved.
